Migration and Development
As Director of Gender and Development at the World Bank Group, Jeni Klugman focuses on gender equality issues. In this interview, she discusses the relationship between migration and human development.
“The relations between migration and human development happen at different levels. For the migrants themselves, there are important gains in terms of their prospects for education, health, income – not only for themselves but also for their families. Links to human development also happen in the origin places, through flows of money and ideas and different networks which flow back home and can bring benefits there as well. And finally, by certainly not least, there are important benefits as well for the destination places, through the diversity and ideas which, again, migrants bring.”
